Soy Causing Colon Polyps?

QUESTION

Do you think soy can cause colon polyps?

ANSWER

The evidence suggests that soy lectin may in fact help lower incidence of colon polyps, mainly because many lectins lower levels of polyamines, a class of chemicals which are used to provide growth stimulus to mutating colon cells.

However to see if any reports exist in the literature, I did electronically scan the 9,000,000 citations listed in MEDLINE, searching under 'soy', 'soya', 'polyps' 'intestinal' and 'colon.'

The only result was 'No Items Found' again and again.

The Ask Dr. D'Adamo internet advice column ran from 1996 to 2009, at which time Dr. D'Adamo's teaching and programming responsibilities no longer allowed him to devote time and resources to directly answering visitor questions. However we've recently reorganized this treasure-trove of material and made it again available to his readership. He occasionally posts new entries. These are marked with a NEW tag.
