| BIOACTIVITY | An in vitro study of astrocyte-derived C6 rat glioblastoma cells expressing a GFP tagged annexin VII fusion protein demonstrates a sequential redistribution of the fusion protein in response to rising intracellular Ca2+ concentrations. This indicates a role of annexin VII in the regulation of intracellular Ca(2+)-dependent processes in astroglial cells. See: Neuroreport 2001 May 8;12(6):1139-44 Synexin (annexin VII), a Ca(2+)-dependent phospholipid binding protein, may have a role in surfactant secretion, since it promotes membrane fusion between isolated lamellar bodies (the surfactant-containing organelles) and plasma membranes. Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol 2001 May;280(5):L991-8 The ANX7 gene is located on human chromosome 10q21, a site long hypothesized to harbor a tumor suppressor gene(s) (TSG) associated with prostate and other cancers. Consistently, analysis of ANX7 protein expression in human prostate tumor microarrays reveals a significantly higher rate of loss of ANX7 expression in metastatic and local recurrences of hormone refractory prostate cancer as compared with primary tumors (P = 0.0001).
